Frequently Asked Questions

We try to anticipate questions you might have about window tint and provide the answers here. If you need additional information send email to brianhes@msn.com
1.

Why should I have my windows tinted?

Here are seven great reasons:

  • DECREASE HEAT - Today's window film is extremely efficient at controlling the effects of solar energy. Films can provide up to 60% heat reduction as compared to untreated glass.
  • REDUCE FADING - Window film blocks 99% of ultra-violet rays, providing a maximum efficiency sunscreen while reducing solar heat. Minimizing these causes of fading protects your valuable investment.
  • ELIMINATE GLARE - There is no need to put up with annoying glare, what ever the cause - direct sun, reflections from snow, water, or surrounding buildings or vehicles - the Tint Doctor has an ideal film solution.
  • INCREASE SAFETY - Shattering glass is a hazard when accidents happen or when vandalism or environmental effects cause breakage. The protection offered by window film provides a functional safety net that holds shattered glass together, making you more secure.
  • ENHANCE APPEARANCE - Whether you want a sleek custom look for your vehicle or a smart uniform appearance for the exterior of your home or business, we have many different shades of film, from barely noticeable to completely blacked out to create this gratifying look.
  • IMPROVE PRIVACY & COMFORT - Whether driving in your car or relaxing at home, no one enjoys the prying eyes or stares of onlookers. Many types of film will eliminate this problem and make you feel more comfortable.
  • IT'S FAST AND EASY - Professional installation is fast and non intrusive with no harsh chemicals or chance of harm to your vehicle or furnishings. There is minimal disruption to lifestyle, activities, or work schedule.

Aren't there a lot of problems with tint after it has been on for a while, such as bubbling, peeling, scratching?

Bubbles?

Bubbles in film are caused by one of three things- Dirt or fibers laminated between the film and the glass, air pockets left in the film from improper squeegee technique or adhesive failure. The first two causes will show up within the first week of curing time, but at the Tint Doctor we take such great care in preparing the glass and mounting the film that this never occurs. Adhesive failure comes from using low grade generic films. All of our professional grade films have a LIFETIME WARRANTY against adhesive failure, guaranteeing that your windows will be free of any type of bubbles for many years to come!

Peeling?

Peeling is most often seen on windows that roll up and down. This is caused by the bottom edge of the film being cut short or in a jagged manner leaving the exposed edge  above the rubber gasket on the inside at the bottom of the window. This is common with many computer cut kits and shops where laziness prevails. At the Tint Doctor, we always take the extra time to make sure that the bottom edge is below the gasket on all roll up windows, thus eliminating any chance of peeling.

Scratching?

As far as scratching is concerned, today's professional films are far more scratch resistant than ever before and can not be marked by fingernails, most plastics, or routine cleaning. You must still be careful with metals, watches, rings, or anything which would scratch untreated glass. On the rare occasion when the film is damaged accidentally in some way we will replace it free of charge the first time and gladly suggest ways to prevent further damage.

3.

My car has a rear window defroster. Can it sill be tinted?

YES! The film and the defroster work fine together. The summer sun heats your glass more than the defroster ever will so there is no danger of it damaging the film. Since no cuts are ever made on the inside of the glass, there is also no danger of damage to the defroster and it will continue to function just as well as it did before your film was installed.

4.

Is it legal to put window tint on my car?

YES! All 50 states allow some degree of tint. Laws vary from state to state regarding the amount of density and reflectivity allowed on some or all of your windows. At the Tint Doctor we have the most current list of laws for all 50 states. We will be happy to advise you on what is legal, or if you wish, passable in the state in which your car is registered.

5.

Can I still have my windows tinted if the weather is cold or wet?

YES! Window film is installed with a mild soap water solution to the inside of the glass, so rainy or wet weather will not effect it at all. During the colder months the same is true. The only difference is that it may take longer for the film to completely cure. The adhesive on the film will still bond securely to the Glass in 3-5 days allowing you to roll your windows up and down in the same amount of time regardless of the season or weather. And oh yeah, tint looks cool even when it's cold.

6.

Will I be able to see out of my tinted windows?

Yes! All film is much easier to see out of than it is to look into. Reflective films and limousine tint can be somewhat difficult to see out of at night, but at the Tint Doctor we have many shades that are no harder to see through than factory glass at any time of the day during any weather conditions
